Principal's and Assistant Principal's Message:

John Pilotin

Dear Gilbert Families,
I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones in good health and high spirits. As the principal of Gilbert Academy of Creative Arts, I am honored to reconnect with our wonderful community and warmly welcome both returning and new families.

To share some of my personal and professional background, I grew up on the North Shore of Maui. My wife is a CCSD counselor, and we have two children. I enjoy running and playing basketball and the guitar. I also love writing songs, singing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. My previous professional background includes serving as a special education teacher at the elementary and high school levels,  transition coordinator, student services coordinator, and assistant principal.

We firmly believe that attendance is vital to your child's academic success. Regular school attendance ensures continuity in learning and fosters a sense of belonging and active engagement within the classroom. Together, we can create a supportive environment that values and prioritizes every student's presence.

Academic achievement remains a cornerstone of Clark County School District and our school's mission. Our dedicated staff is committed to providing a stimulating and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to explore, create, and grow. We will continue challenging your child academically, nurturing their curiosity, creativity, and love for learning. We encourage open communication between parents, staff, and students, which is pivotal in supporting your child's educational journey.

Equally important to us is the development of social and emotional wellness. We aim to create a safe, nurturing space where students feel seen, heard, and supported. We will foster social connections, empathy, and respect through various activities and initiatives-HOUSE System is aligned with positive behavioral supports.

Lastly, we would like to emphasize our commitment to the creative arts.  At Gilbert Academy of Creative Arts, we recognize the vital role of the arts in fostering self-expression, critical thinking, and imagination. We will continue to provide opportunities for students to engage in various standards-based artistic endeavors. Through these experiences, we aim to unlock your child's creativity, promote self-confidence, celebrate their unique talents, and increase their academic achievement.

Thank you for entrusting us with the education and growth of your child. I am honored to serve as your principal and look forward to another wonderful year. Let us make this a year of discoveries, growth, and unforgettable memories. Reminder, arrival, and gates open at 8:30. Dismissal is at 3:20.

Warm regards,

Assistant Principal's Message: Ms. Melissa Golino

Dear Families,

My name is Melissa Golino and I am the new Assistant Principal at Gilbert Elementary, Academy of the Creative Arts.

“Be the change you wish to see.” This is my philosophy on my profession. It expresses my commitment as an administrator to inspire core values by being a role model for the positive, responsive environment I strive to provide.

My goal at Gilbert is to furnish a firm foundation composed of practices designed to create joyful, safe and engaged classrooms and academic communities. Equally crucial is to clearly define the parameters for appropriate behaviors, motivation and goal setting for teachers and students alike.  Additionally, when students and teachers are supplied with the necessary resources to create strong relationships, teachers are better able to understand and accommodate students’ needs by adjusting class activities, and students are enabled to achieve high levels of growth and success in all areas.

To share some of my personal and professional background, I grew up on Long Island, in Dix Hills, New York.  I enjoy traveling, having coffee on the veranda, trying new restaurants, and spending quality time with my family and friends. I also love going to the gym daily, to enhance my mind, body, and soul.

Professionally, I have over 20 years of experience in education. I began my career in New York, teaching English at the middle school. Upon moving to Las Vegas, in 2006, in CCSD; I taught High School English, Special Education and was a  Special Education Instructional Facilitator at both the Secondary and Elementary Level. I have spent the last five years as an Assistant Principal at both the secondary and elementary level.

I am grateful to be your Assistant Principal and believe in building positive relationships with all stakeholders and fostering a positive school culture.

Best Regards,

Melissa Golino
